Frequently Asked Questions

Who can volunteer to take part?

Most volunteers work in data-related roles, but that’s not essential. If you have knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint and feel confident supporting students as they work through tasks, we’d love to hear from you.

We welcome professionals from data and STEM fields, educators, career changers, and even students who are passionate about using data to tell stories and solve problems to apply.

Do I require a DBS?

From 1 September 2026, supervision alone does not exempt volunteers from regulated activity requirements. Certain duties carried out on more than three days within any 30-day period, or other qualifying activities, may require an enhanced DBS check and children’s barred list check.

Please inform Digdata if you expect to volunteer on more than three days within any 30-day period, so we can review the safeguarding requirements for your role.

What should I prepare?

The Digdata team will send you everything you need in advance, including event details, resources, and guidance so you feel confident and ready to go. A volunteering briefing call will be hosted one week prior to each event. If you are unable to attend this session the call will be recorded and emailed to you for your reference.

What support will I get?

The Digdata team will organise a briefing call ahead of the day of the event(s) and supply you with all the materials you need. We will also set up a WhatsApp group for the team of volunteers joining the event to communicate with us.
